In 2011, Matane (Ville) had a population of 14,462, representing a percentage change of -1.9% from 2006. This compares to the national average growth of 5.9%.

Land area is 195.47 square kilometres with a population density of 74.0 persons per square kilometre. This compares to the provincial land area of 1,356,547.02 square kilometres with a population density of 5.8 persons per square kilometre.
