In 2011, Shippagan (Parish / Paroisse (municipalité de)) had a population of 5,032, representing a percentage change of -6.3% from 2006. This compares to the national average growth of 5.9%.

Land area is 207.25 square kilometres with a population density of 24.3 persons per square kilometre. This compares to the provincial land area of 71,377.18 square kilometres with a population density of 10.5 persons per square kilometre.

In 2011, the number of census families³ in Shippagan was 1,595, which represents a change of -1.2% from 2006. This compares to a growth rate for Canada of 5.5% over the same period.
