In 2011, Chester (Municipal district) had a population of 10,599, representing a percentage change of -1.3% from 2006. This compares to the national average growth of 5.9%.

Land area is 1,122.22 square kilometres with a population density of 9.4 persons per square kilometre. This compares to the provincial land area of 52,939.44 square kilometres with a population density of 17.4 persons per square kilometre.
