Description
This figure illustrates the change in the number, in millions, and in the proportion of Canadians who reported being able to conduct a conversation in both official languages from 1971 to 2011. Data for the 1971, 1981, 1991, 2001, 2006 and 2011 censuses are presented. The values for each year are as follows: 2.9 million and 13.4% of the population in 1971, 3.7 million and 15.3% of the population in 1981, 4.4 million and 16.3% of the population in 1991, 5.2 million and 17.7% of the population in 2001, 5.4 million and 17.4% of the population in 2006, 5.8 million and 17.5% of the population in 2011.
